Christian Values

Friendship    Respect    Endurance    Forgiveness    Kindness    Trust

These Core Christian Values will be embedded throughout our curriculum over the next year and will be taught under the umbrella of ‘community’ as we feel this is important to Hanbury First School. These values appear on our letters, website and throughout the school. The children are familiar with them and we will acknowledge those children who show their deep understanding of what these values mean.

One Christian value is focused on each half term. The children learn all about the meaning behind this value, how it relates to the 'life and teachings of Jesus' and what this means to them and their lives. We will also be sending a home, a ‘School Value’ hand-out. The aim of this is that parents can see which value we are learning about and how our families can get involved at home.

These values are strongly linked to the government’s ‘British Values’ and our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural curricullum.

Friendship

Learning to be a good friend, someone who can be trusted and is loyal, it takes a lifetime.  Friends come in all shapes and sizes, some are young, some are old. Some are always there, some we see occassionally.

Respect

We learn at school about treating others with respect even if we sometimes do not agree  with the way they behave  or the things they say. We have also been thinking about how we should treat the things that belong to us and to other people respectfully.

Endurance

Teachers often say that endurance is something that many children find difficult. Very little which is really worthwhile in life can be achieved without endurance. An athlete may train for years before they are ready to compete at the highest level. Musician must practice every day, sometimes for hours at a time, if they are to really master their instrument.

Forgiveness

Everyone makes mistakes, it’s part of being human. Sometimes our mistakes hurt others and then we need to say sorry. Sometimes mistakes made by other people hurt us. When this happens we need to forgive. Forgiveness can be difficult and costly but without it a new start is impossible.

Kindness and Compassion

Everyone knows how good it makes us feel if someone is kind to us, maybe when we need it but it also makes us feel good if we are kind to others. Showing an act of kindness to others does not cost anything. Compassion is about 'standing in someone else's shoes' when they are having a hard time. In other words, trying to understand how they might be feeling and doing our best to try to help.

Trust

Trust is a really important value. It must be earned. If we do not trust someone it is very hard to build a good friendship with them.
