Hello and welcome to Reception's page. There are 25 of us in the class and we are a fun and lively group. I am Mrs Kershaw the class teacher and I teach alongside our wonderful teaching assistant, Mrs Ellis. We are very busy in Reception learning lots of new skills and solving problems such as 'how to free a superhero from a block of ice' and trying to catch the troll who hides under the bridge on forest school. We enjoy singing and dancing activities and making lots of things with junk!! We love using our outdoor environment as much as possible where we learn and play in the various areas such as construction, water and den building. We love reading books and enjoy social time with our friends when we get to chat and tell stories about our home and families. We have daily phonics and maths lessons and learn about the world through our 6 topics which are:
All about me
Celebrations and Christmas
Under the Sea
We go on forest school every Thursday morning and walk across the fields up to Hanbury woods. Here we enjoy climbing trees, exploring the natural environment and learning to challenge ourselves. Afterwards we walk to our shelter where we are able to have hot chocolate and make a fire. On these occasions we like to toast marshmallows and cook sausages for a well earned sandwich!
Our 6 core Christian Values are taught from the start of Reception and the children learn about these through their play and in discreet teaching of SMSC and Religious Education. Our values are Friendship, Respect, Endurance, Forgiveness, Kindness and Compassion and Trust. These values have great importance at Hanbury and help the children to understand how to behave, follow rules and build strong friendships.
