Becky Kershaw

18th March 2019
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Mrs Becky Kershaw, sadly passed away last night, after a long but very brave battle against cancer.
Becky has given so much to our school, not only as a brilliant teacher but in driving the school forward as a church school. Becky coordinated RE across the school and in doing so was instrumental in putting together our core Christian Values. She also led science and had a passion for our pupils to get involved in practical experiments whenever possible.
Although she taught in older year groups when she came to Hanbury she decided to take on the challenge of Early Years, teaching in Reception. As expected, she threw herself into the role, providing her reception children with the best start they could possibly have.
I would like to ask that all of our families keep her children, Olivia and Henry, and Stephen her husband, and the rest of Becky’s family in their thoughts and prayers at this extremely difficult time. Please respect their wishes by giving them time alone to grieve.
We took the decision to inform the pupils in Years 2, 3 & 4 as they were taught by Mrs Kershaw in Reception. They were told the news this morning, in a whole school assembly, and were given the opportunity to discuss any issues, within their classes, during the day.
Please be aware that some children may wish to ask further questions, in the surroundings of their own home. The following web link offers some simple suggestions and ideas should you wish to use them: child/talking-to-children-about-death
I will write to you in the near future, regarding funeral arrangements, as the governors and I have decided that the school and Scooters will be closed on this day, as a mark of respect. Ultimately Becky was a teacher but to the staff, governors and Scooters she was a dear friend.
