Honouring Our Hanbury Heroes

9th November 2020
Year 4 focused on a very local aspect of Remembrance, by visiting Hanbury War Memorial this morning.

With tummies full of sausage sandwiches, they enjoyed a walk across the beautiful countryside, into the village.

They started their visit by listening to the poem "In Flanders' Fields" by John McCrea, which triggered a discussion about why we remember, followed by a special 2 minute silence.

Then, the group wrote down their thoughts, feelings, ideas, prayers and poems of their own, before taking rubbings of the names on the Memorial.  The children will be researching these names and finding out about their connection to the village and our school.
