Planning for September... Back to School

14th August 2020

We want to make sure everyone has a clear understanding of where the school stands with regards to returning on Wednesday 2nd September 2020 as early as possible.  This way any arrangements that parents or carers need to put in place can be done so ahead of the first day back.

We have decided school will start as normal with Years 1 to 4 starting on the 2nd September and Reception - as in previous years - having a managed induction over the initial two weeks.

There are changes to the start and finish times of the classes, this has been done to control the number of parents / children coming to and from school at any one time. Families with more than one child at school will be able to drop off and collect their children at the earlier time.

There will also be a one-way system from the car park, along the path, through the playground gate then up the ramp and out via the school field.

Parents and carers will need to spend a little time as possible on the school grounds.  This will mean waiting in your vehicle until your drop off/collection window and leaving the playground as soon as your child has been handed over/collected.

Please maintain a 2m distance from others at all times and keep hold of your child until you have dropped them off or when you collect, are back to your vehicle

The most challenging part of this new way of school life will be keeping the classes separate. As recommended by the Government and Worcestershire Children First (WCF) there will be no whole school gatherings during the day (eg assemblies, playtimes and lunch times).

Parents and carers, will need to minimise contact with school staff unless it is absolutely necessary. Contact should be through office e-mail or telephone whenever possible.

At present parents, carers and staff do not need to wear masks on school grounds, this will be your own personal choice.

Those parents whose children attended school over the summer term will be familiar with the procedures.

Start of the Day

8:45am:  Year 1 and Year 2 enter through the playground gate to drop off, exiting through field gate onto the car park straight away.

9:00am:  Year 3 and 4 enter through school main entrance and straight in to classrooms, parents exit through the playground and over the field onto the car park.

9:15am: Reception Parents and pupils enter via playground gate for handover to teacher.

SCOOTERS

Those children attending Scooters will move to and from Scooters as normal at 8:45am and 3:00pm. Scooters will inform parents of their start and end of day procedures and the measures parents / carers will need to take.

ONLINE LEARNING & HOMEWORK

It is important that the online systems i.e. Tapestry, Seesaw and Rising Stars are active from September as it is both the government and LA expectation that in the case of a second closure the school has capacity to introduce on-line learning rapidly.

Years 2, 3 and 4 will not take reading books home.  Reading will take place in school and using the online reading platform, Rising Stars. There will be set days for new books to be assigned, this is vital as teachers will have limited time for the on-line learning platforms because of full time classroom commitment.

We see it as imperative that Reception and Year 1 have reading books to take home, therefore it has been decided that these books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday.  This will allow books that come back to be put aside for at least 72 hours before they are used by the next child.

Seesaw will run as the homework arm, this will not only prevent worksheets, etc. being sent home but allow us to monitor homework and give those children, and parents, who have not being using the platform an opportunity to become familiar with it.

Tapestry will be the communication platform for Reception parents and children.

PE

PE lessons will be conducted outside for the foreseeable future. On PE days children should come into school in their PE kits and will remain in them all day. PE days will be notified at a later date.

FOREST SCHOOL

Forest School will be on-site for the foreseeable future. Mrs Pincher (Forest School Lead), will not be taking Reception until the 2nd half of autumn term.
