Pupil Pedal Power for Freddie's Fundraiser!
28th September 2020
Two kind-hearted pupils have been using pedal power to increase the total raised to help fund a structural changes that will benefit their friend-and others-at Hanbury First School.
Freddie was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2018 at the age of just 4 years old. He is currently in the maintenance stage of his treatment.
Our treasured Year 2 friend gets extremely tired and needs to be able to use a wheelchair.
He loves going to school and really enjoys learning and playing with his friends. His family have launched a bid to raise enough money to make the necessary changes to our site that will not only benefit Freddie, but other pupils too.
Pennie and Edie are two of our very youngest pupils from Year 1 and Reception. They showed how much Freddie means to them by jumping on their bikes and completing a 1 mile sponsored bike ride.
Edie has only just learned to ride without stabilisers, so Headteacher, Mr Payne was incredibly impressed to hear they had not only completed their challenge but smashed their £500 target by over £200 already! He awarded them both a very special (and rare!) Headteachers badge.
“We have a set of values here at Hanbury which are at the heart of everything we do,” he said.
“Seeing our fantastic pupils living out these values, especially the kindness, compassion, endurance and friendship that Pennie and Edie have shown by completing their bike ride, makes everyone at school very, very proud.
“Thank you, girls," he added. "You have done something really wonderful for your friend.”
If you would like to add to the girls’ total, you can visit their JustGiving page here. Alternatively, you can visit the main JustGiving page set up by Freddie’s family by clicking here. Either way your donation will go towards this worthy cause and will be very gratefully received.
