Reception News: 21st November 2019

21st November 2019
Star of the Week:  Bellatrix
Mathematician of the Week:  Eloise
Writer of the Week:  Pennie
Rocking Reader:  Dylan
Values Champion (Respect):  Abigail
Maths:  Number and place value This week the children chose a number card and used objects and numerals to show the same as, fewer than or more than the chosen number.  They did a super job at representing the numbers and could say which ones are more than and fewer than.  I even challenged them to see if they could tell me what would be fewer than 1 and they now know it's 0.
Comparing sets - The children worked in pairs and grabbed a handful of objects. Questions asked: does your partner have more than you, fewer than you or do you have an equal amount?

They did really well with this activity quickly showing their understanding of more, fewer and the same.

Literacy:  We chose characters from the story "Whatever Next" and acted out different scenes. Our freeze frames captured key snapshots from the story.

The children then looked at the different freeze frames and used them to guess which scene was being captured.

We then wrote about our favourite scene focusing on correct letter formation and sentence structure.

PSHE - I am special:  In PHSE we are learning how we are all important.  We listed all things that make each one of the children special.  We also looked at the Queen's crown and talked about how the Queen is very important and special but so are we.  We used craft materials to decorate our own crowns to remind us that we are special and important.

The nativity rehearsals are in full swing. Well done to the children who know all their lines. Please keep going over these with them at home. The singing sounds fab already.
