Year 1 News: 14th November 2019

14th November 2019
Year 1 have had a busy week this week. We started off by learning about remembrance, and the reasons we wear poppies in November. All the children were really well behaved during the 2 minute silence and we had a discussion in class afterwards about how holding a 'silence' is a way of showing respect - our value of the term.

We learned about wearing odd socks to show that although we are all different, we are all important and equally special. We then made anti-bullying posters to help the hippos in our class story to be kind to each other.

Today we have been working together to create puddly collage pictures. They all look fantastic and it was great to see the children collaborating to make them together.

Maths: we have been practicing our number bonds to ten and solving lots of tricky problems with them. This week we have focussed on improving our reasoning skills and Explaining how we solve our problems. Miss Dancer has also been absolutely blown away by how good we are at using our 'crocodile' signs to compare numbers and equations.

English: we have been working on our sentence writing. The children have been working extremely hard in phonics to develop their blending skills and it is so lovely to see that coming out in their work. The children have written sentences describing what happened in our class story 'First hippo on the moon'.
