Year 2 News: 13th September 2018

13th September 2018
We have all been settling into Year 2 this week, saying goodbye to some familiar faces and meeting some new ones!  We wish Seb and Sian lots of luck as they move onto pastures new, whilst we hope our new friends enjoy life as Hanbury pupils.
Numeracy:  We have been exploring place value this week, using equipment to represent 'tens' and 'ones'.  This has helped us work out different ways of making the same 2-digit number.
Literacy:  Our 'Recipe for a Great Year 2" is coming along nicely.  We've included some special ingredients and have added bossy verbs and adverbs to make the instructions really clear.  We put lots of actions to our notes to help us remember the order and thought hard about how we should set out our work.
Topic:  We've begun to learn about The Great Fire of London and found out that Samuel Pepys wrote a diary which tells us lots about what happened.  We found it a bit strange-but clever-that he put his wine and cheese in the ground to keep it safe!
PE:  Miss Jones has been teaching us some Yoga in PE.  We are getting very good!  We are looking forward to learning how to play hockey this term too.  We will be doing sport inside an outside, so some of us still need a full, named PE kit though as then we are ready for anything!  Everyone needs green shorts, a white t-shirt, a grey Hanbury hoodie, tracksuit trousers and black PE pumps (not trainers) please.
Big Maths-Beat That!:  We will be doing our speedy maths quiz every Friday so please help us beat our score by using the sheet sent home this week to sharpen our skills!  The sheet can be kept at home as the number sentences are the same each week (we just jumble them up!).
Reading:  Everyone has read with Miss Jones and Mrs Shaw this week.  It was lovely hearing such super readers!  Keep reading at home and noting it in the green record book.  Don't forget it's 1 x house point for 3 reads a week and 2 x house points for 5 reads.  5 x 5 reads = 5 Times a Reader and a treat!
