Year 2 News: 22nd March 2018

22nd March 2018
Star of the Week:  Olivia
Mathematician of the Week:  Harrison
Writer of the Week:  George
Values Champion:  Charlie

Congratulations to Harrison who won £5 of book tokens after he won the 'Design a book cover' competition!  Judging was very tricky, so thank you to everyone who took the time to enter.

LITERACY:  We have been writing recounts this week.  We put ourselves in the (tiny!) shoes of a mouse, in our story "The Disgusting Sandwich" and thought about what he/she experienced.  We used the questions 'who?', 'what?', 'why?', 'where?', 'when?' and 'how?' to plan our work, then wrote the full version.  We've all had targets to focus on as we want to keep improving!

NUMERACY:  To start off our maths lessons, we have been thinking about fractions and how we can work out half, quarter and thirds of amounts or shapes.  Then we have been partitioning 2 digit numbers to help us add and take away.

ICT:  We took our own photographs using the iPads after learning about how a digital camera works and how we might compose images to look interesting.  We loved looking at Miss Jones' photographs, which she took as part of her A-level course.

ART:  We have continued experimenting with pointillism, trying to create the illusion of mixing colours by using different coloured dots.  We were impressed with our results!

We have all started to learn a poem which we will be performing in the Easter Service in church next week.  It has helped us to think very carefully about the Easter story and understand why it is so important to Christians.

We were also very lucky to get to see the Year 3 & 4 performance - some of our older brothers and sisters are in the play, so it was great to show our support and have a chuckle at the funny jokes in the story!
