Year 2 News: 25th October 2018

25th October 2018
Star of the Week:  Harry
Mathematician of the Week:  Rory
Writer of the Week:  Lola
Values Champion:  Alistair
We've certainly packed in a week's worth of fun into 4 days in Year 2, ending the half term with a Science Day!  We designed an experiment to test the strength of different kinds of paper.  We had to try our best to think and write like scientists.  The results were amazing... who would have thought the paper we write on every day is so strong!
Numeracy:  We have been doing lots of inversing this week, creating fact families and thinking about the parts and the whole of our calculations.  We've managed to fit in some maths games too... we'd love to play Number Bond Tennis or Odd or Even with you over the holiday!
Art:  It was time to start printing like Paul Klee - the artist we are focusing on this term.  We used a printing technique just like he did, building up our scene from the bottom of the page.
PE:  We were lucky enough to be treated to a Jump Rope workshop earlier this week.  We loved learning new skills that we try to put into practice at lunchtime play when we have the skipping ropes out!
Reading:  We rewarded this term's 5 x a Readers - Isabel, Alistair, Logan and Isla.  Some children were extremely close to the accolade so a very big 'well done' to them too.  Reading is very important - it helps in so many areas of our learning - thank you for supporting us at home to read and talk about our books.
We were thrilled to welcome two new friends who came to spend a day in Year 2, before they become official Hanbury Pupils in November!  However, we were also very sad to say goodbye to Benji - we will miss him very much but know that he will be fantastic in his new school!
Finally, Miss Jones has enjoyed meeting so many parents over the past two weeks - she loves an opportunity to tell you how amazing Year 2 are!  We hope you all have a really good rest during half term holiday.
