Our new story in literacy has been lots of fun to learn... it is all about "The Disgusting Sandwich"!  We have thought about the order the story follows and have investigated the expanded noun phrases the author has used, like "green, gloopy pondweed"... yuck!  We have "boxed up" the story to help us rewrite it, whilst some of us have planned our own work from scratch.

In maths, we have been turning repeated addition calculations into multiplication facts.  To do this, we've been thinking hard about what each number in a multiplication sentence means.  The first one is how many is in a group, the second tells us how many groups we have got.  We have been drawing lots of pictures to help us, and some of us have been solving some tricky word problems using what we have learned.

In science we are learning about microhabitats, thinking about where mini beasts live and why they live there.

Two of our groups in Guided Reading have been studying "The Railway Children" by E Nesbitt.  Miss Jones and Mrs Shaw are really impressed with how they have met the challenge of what is quite a tricky text!  New vocabulary has been met with determination, whist discussions about the story have been really enthusiastic and insightful.  It has been lovely to hear the children tell us that they are inspired to use some of the words in their writing too!
