Year 4 News: 20th September 2020

20th September 2020

It has been a very different start to the academic year but we are so pleased with the way Year 4 have come into school and settled into the new regimes.  The children should be commended for the way they have tackled things sensibly and with confidence.  They are already excellent role models for the younger children in school and are thinking about our Hanbury values in all that they do.

In literacy, we have started a poetry module where the children have to think about different literary features.  We started with a poem by Pi Corbett and studied the way he had used exciting vocabulary, alliteration and metaphors.  Mrs Ball has been very impressed with how well we have used grammar and punctuation and written in the style of the poet.

On Monday, we used the outdoors to collate our ideas for a new poem.  We wrote on the playground and spent time up levelling each other’s ideas in order to prepare ourselves for a new topic.  By the end of the week, we should have some amazing poems to publish.

In maths, we are learning about place value and how each digit in a number has an additive and multiplicative value.  We have had to do a bit of revision in CLIC but we are working hard on our number skills.
