Year 4 News: 27th September 2018

27th September 2018
Star of the Week:  Charlie C
Mathematician of the Week:  Finn
Writer of the Week:  Grace
Values Champion:  Charley B

Maths:  We have been consolidating our knowledge of place value, learning how to make good estimations and using a written formal method to calculate the total of two amounts.

Literacy/Topic:  We have shown empathy towards soldiers who fought in WW1 by writing letters from the trenches imagining we are serving our country.  Mrs Ball and Mrs Hope are really pleased with the questions we have asked and our eagerness to learn more.  We watched a video showing the Christmas Day Truce and talked about what it meant.

Art:  We will be sketching in the style of the Italian artist, Leonardo da Vinci.  In practising various skills,  we hope to create lots of still life masterpieces.

The highlight of our week will be our Macmillan Coffee Morning.  We are all busy preparing for our fund raising event and hope we can raise lots to donate to Macmillan Nurses to help those who are affected by cancer. Any cake donations will be gratefully received and sold on your behalf.

Next week, we will be walking up to church for our Harvest festival.  This will be the first time that year 4 will lead the service and we are very much looking forward to the challenge.  Some of us will be reading but we will all be performing a song we have been busy rehearsing.
