Milton Bowers

Chair of Governors

"It is an absolute pleasure to be able to contribute to the continued development of Hanbury First School; a school which is blessed with a first class, committed and enthusiastic staff, delightful children, a strong governing body and a happy and safe environment which is ideal for children to develop their potential both intellectually and emotionally."
My wife Greta and I have lived in Hanbury since 2002 shortly after my retirement from the Headship of a large Comprehensive School in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

I have been a member of the Open the Book team since its inception in 2009. This group tells bible stories to all the children of Hanbury First School in assembly time. I was very impressed with both the pupils and staff of the school and eventually joined the Governing Body in September 2016. I felt that I could help the school given my previous experience in education although it it is somewhat dated now!

I have always been involved in sport throughout my life particularly rugby, running and squash and latterly golf. I am a member of Bromsgrove Golf Club, North Worcestershire Rotary Club and Bromsgrove Probus Club. I was a JP in Scarborough and South Worcestershire from 1994 until my retirement in 2012.

I also take part in village activities notably Hanbury Drama Group, Hanbury History Group, a Trustee of Hanbury Village Hall and I have chaired the CRASH group (Committee for Rural Action for Safer Hanbury) since 2005.

I was elected Chair of Governors in September 2019 and I am finding this both enjoyable and interesting. It is an absolute pleasure to be able to contribute to the continued development of Hanbury First School; a school which is blessed with a first class, committed and enthusiastic staff, delightful children, a strong governing body and a happy and safe environment which is ideal for children to develop their potential both intellectually and emotionally.
