Year Two

Year 2 is a fun-packed, busy year with lots of exciting, new challenges that will stimulate your children and prepare them for the step up to Key Stage 2.

Miss Bishop is our Teacher and Mrs Shaw is the Class Teaching Assistant.  We are also joined by Miss Ward who is working with us while she trains to be a teacher. Mrs Cotton works with us too.

We have Literacy and Numeracy at least four times a week and enjoy learning about a wide variety of topics such as the Great Fire of London and Exploring the Wider World.

In Literacy we are learning to think and write like authors and this is going to help us develop our writing skills throughout the year. We learn about many different styles of writing and write for a range of purposes. We are working hard to build on and apply the phonics we have learnt in Year 1, to help us become fantastic spellers!

In Numeracy, we become excellent problem solvers and develop our fluency in calculation. Our greater depth programme promotes higher order thinking and encourages the children to 'prove it' when answering questions. We enjoy learning how to apply the skills we learn all week in regular investigations.

During our busy week we also have Science, RE, PE, Topic, and Music and are lucky enough to have expert coaches during the year.
We worked with our fantastic dance coach, Cassie to create a Great Fire of London-themed routine.  We went to South Bromsgrove High to perform it in a fun dance festival!
We are very lucky to have such beautiful, natural surroundings, and throughout the term we take our learning outside the classroom. We rediscover and connect with nature in sessions at our Forest School site or around the setting of our school.

We often welcome Mrs Pincher, our forest school leader too. She teaches us all about respecting the natural world around us and plans activities using tools or equipment. We enjoy our sausage sandwiches and toasted marshmallows next to the fire!
If you're looking to sharpen your spelling skills, why not download the Year 2 harder to read and spell words, then use our worksheets to practice?
