Year 2 News: 9th November 2017

9th November 2017
Star of the Week:  George
Mathematician of the Week:  Aaron
Writer of the Week:  Amelia
Values Champion:  Archie

We seem to be trying to set a record in Year 2....  within the space of 10 minutes on Wednesday Harry AND George lost a tooth!

Literacy:  We have been writing our own stories based on the Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.  We had to stick to the pattern of the story, including thinking of a problem that was solved at the third attempt.  Issues included dogs falling off boats, leaky submarines and runaway canal boats!  We tried to include adjective and adverbs to make our writing really special.

Numeracy:  This week has been all about 3-D shapes.  We have thought about properties and have used our skills to sort and identify different shapes.  Some of us even built our own shapes using a set amount of sides and vertices.  We are all trying hard to use the appropriate vocabulary - including pronouncing the tricky word "quadrilateral"!

We spent Thursday afternoon practicing our class assembly, which takes place next week, on 16th November - parents and carers are welcome to come along.  We also talked about Remembrance Day and thought about why we wear poppies at this time of year.

Year 2 have also been honing their acting skills by starting to learn our lines and songs for this year's Nativity!  A letter has gone home with lines to learn - please try to practice them this week.  We have also asked for costumes, but please don't worry if you haven't got one at home.  We have some costumes in school, so if you tell Miss Jones in plenty of time, we can sort one out!
