Hanbury Hits Top Total for Bowel Cancer UK

25th January 2019

After a huge fundraising effort, staff and pupils at Hanbury C. of E. First School have been totting up the total donation they are making to Bowel Cancer UK.

Events and activities took place throughout 2018 to raise funds for the charity that supports those living with bowel cancer, following the diagnosis of Reception Teacher, Mrs Kershaw.

Thanks to everyone who took part or donated to a grand raffle, coloured a poo emoji, filled a matchbox with as many items as possible, bought a cake (or two!), wore purple and green on non-uniform day or took part in a World Cup sweepstake, the final total raised is a jaw-dropping… £2248.31!

Headteacher, Mr Payne joined pupils from each class to celebrate the tremendous achievement:

“The only way to recognise raising such a huge amount, is with a huge cheque!” said Mr Payne.

“This money will make such a difference to families at a time in their lives when they need expert support, information and advice.

“There are so many people who are part of the Hanbury School family.  The way everyone got involved and donated to this very important charity and cause makes me very proud and shows just how much that family means to us all.”
