After living in Stoke Prior for 7 years my wife Julie and I moved into a house in Hanbury in 1996.
I took early retirement from The University of Birmingham after 40 years as a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and still hold an honorary lectureship. Having been involved in education for my entire career I was excited to be given the opportunity in 2010 to become a governor at Hanbury School.
Living close to the School I was always amazed at how well behaved the children were, as soon as the bell sounded there was silence and being a governor gave me the chance to learn more about the School and try to help and influence its future direction.
My hobbies are varied with cycling being my main choice, however it’s now more sedentary than my days of road racing and time trialling. 10 years ago, I took up bee keeping as I firmly believe that bees are very important to our eco system and provide honey as a bonus. Other interests involve playing the guitar, photography and gardening.
During the years in Hanbury I have been involved with numerous theatrical productions most recently the Norbury theatre and Hanbury drama group, operating the sound and lighting systems, the local Neighbourhood watch and the village hall committee, during which time I installed the halls sound and lighting equipment. We also take quite a few holidays in our motorhome and have visited numerous places in the U.K. France and Spain.
The School is a wonderful place where children are nurtured and allowed to develop not only their academic and religious education but also as individuals with the life skills needed to become valued members of our society. The dedication of all of the staff is clear to see every time I visit, it is not just a place of work for them, they consider themselves a family who help each other out as and when require. The School is a very special place for all those involved.
