Mark Bishop

Co-opted Governor

"It is a privilege to work behind the scenes with a team of highly motivated, well organised staff and enthusiastic and talented governors here in Hanbury School.

"It’s a special place."
Born in Bromsgrove, educated at King’s Worcester and Exeter University, I have lived locally for most of my life and happily in Hanbury with wife Gill and various black Labradors since 1992. Gill and I and were married in St. Mary’s Church and have both been involved in village life.

I worked as finance director of a Birmingham based specialist oil company and then ran the European operations of the US based parent company, travelling all over Europe on a regular basis.

Early retirement in 2009 gave me the opportunity to do more in the village with the result that in addition to membership of the board of governors I am currently a Parish Councillor, and serve on St Mary’s Church PCC, the Hanbury Charities trustee board, Hanbury Herald team and as chair of Bromsgrove United Charities, a sheltered housing provider.

Not particularly sporty I enjoy watching most sports and will play the occasional game of golf. Interests include travel, the arts and wine.

Originally my involvement with the school was just to help with the school fund but then I was asked if I would consider becoming a governor and I’m glad I accepted. It is a privilege to work behind the scenes with a team of highly motivated, well organised staff and enthusiastic and talented governors here in Hanbury School.  It’s a special place.
