Pudsey's First Stop!

Children at Hanbury C of E First School were honoured to welcome Pudsey Bear at his first stop on his grand tour of Worcestershire today!

Everyone’s favourite bright yellow bear is spreading the word about this year’s BBC Children in Need which this year aims to “make life lighter” for young people throughout the region and the UK as a whole.

The next two weeks will see fundraising activities taking place to help raise money to give children someone to turn to when they are carrying a load that’s too heavy to manage alone.

Ahead of the big night of Children in Need celebrations which this year take place on Friday, November 15th, Pudsey came to say hello to everyone at Hanbury School and chatted to a group of Year 4 pupils who explained why they think it is important to understand and look after others in our communities.

“We work hard to make sure every child knows that mental health is just as important as their physical health,” said Hanbury School’s Mental Health Lead, Vicky Bishop.

“Our lessons teach ways ask for help and to recognise when others are struggling.  We spend time working on strategies and embracing differences on focus days and weeks during the year.

“To compliment these efforts, we’ve developed our learning environment to make sure children feel safe enough to share and work though all kinds of feelings they may experience.”

Classrooms have received makeovers to provide a calm, nurturing environment, but today, a group of pupils showed Pudsey a special place in a different part of the school:

“Our library is a lovely place to be.  It has a cosy corner which all of our children have access to.  It’s perfect for spending a quiet moment, helping regulate feelings that may have become a bit ‘bigger’ than we would like,” said Miss Bishop.

“It was wonderful to spend some time with Pudsey this morning.  We’re proud to be supporting BBC Children in Need again this year and are looking forward to raising as much as we can to help the projects they fund!”
