Shooting Star of the Week: Betty

Shooting Stars have had another fantastic week at Hanbury. I am amazed by how hard they are working and how much they are packing into every day. This week we have completed our mini unit of work based on the story of ‘Brian Bear’s Picnic’.
The children investigated materials for making a tent for a teddy (our class bear Mallory Monkey was very excited at the thought  of a holiday!). They created frames for their tents with construction straws and thought about which shapes would work best. They have written postcards, and used watercolour paints to make the picture on the front. They have learned the counting in fives pattern and are all getting very confident at spotting when a number is a multiple of five.
The weather was absolutely scorching this week so we got the paddling pool, tuff spot, water toys, tubes and pipes out to cool ourselves off... a good old fashioned water fight was the entertainment for the afternoon, followed by some complex pipe network building. It was great to see the children forming ‘teams’, sharing resources, working together and solving problems.

We had another class baking session on Friday, some tasty savoury scones were the recipe of choice this week - every child made their own batch and they all cane out brilliantly, we really do have some star bakers in year 1!

As well as this we have some children working from home - they have been following the same work as we do in class and have produced some lovely pieces - very well done to all of them for keeping going with it. We love to see their work and the class enjoy seeing their friends in seesaw pictures. This week we even had a special treat when some home learners read a story to us for our end of the day story time - thankyou so much to Jack and to Ollie - we loved them!

Well done Year One - I can’t wait to see what fun we get up to next week!
