This week Year 1 have been really busy learning their lines and practicing their singing for the Christmas play. It looks fantastic and the children have worked very hard to learn their parts. Thank you very much for sending in such fantastic costumes - the children looked really great when they tried them on this morning for their photos.
Writing: We have been learning to retell the story of 'The First Hippo on The Moon' by David Walliams. We started by making a story map  to remind ourselves what happens at each part of the story. Then we worked together to make actions for each part of the story. The children are all able to retell the whole story on their own - a brilliant achievement! We made a video of ourselves retelling the story for our school twitter feed and Talk4Writing UK (the national association for training teachers in how to use this style of story writing)  have retweeted it! Have a look at us in the video here.
Art: We have been busy making some lovely gift tags for our stall at the Friends' Christmas fayre. The children used different styles of printing to make their tags - some have a robin design and some are christmas patterns. Don't forget to look out for them at the fayre next week.
Reading: So many of our children have been working hard at their reading at home. It really does make a massive difference to children when they are able to sit down with a book for five minutes on a regular basis. Very well done to the children who have moved up a colour tape this week - Miss Dancer has set a challenge for all children to move up a colour by Christmas and we are on track to get there!
