Year 2 News: 9th January 2020

9th January 2020
Our final champions of 2019 were...

Star of the Week:  Oscar
Mathematician of the Week:  Amelia M
Writer of the Week:  Paddy
Rocking Reader:  Vincent
Values Champion:  Brooklyn

Happy New Year!  Miss Bishop is incredibly impressed with the way we have returned to school this week - she has been very busy putting lots of us into the rainbow for our effort and attitude.

Spelling:  we are having a bit of a fresh look at our spellings which we hope will have a positive effect on our reading and writing.  We think it will give us lots more confidence and will help us express the creativity we want.  We are building up a bank of fun activities that we can use to spell any of the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words using sparkly gel pens and the magnetic whiteboards we were given!

While we put these activities in place, please keep using the Spelling Logs at home.  The children could even show you the activities we are using to learn our words!

Literacy:  we were very excited to hear our new text is Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl!  We have started to write a fact file about foxes, setting out our writing into sections that will help the reader find the information they want.

Maths:  we have been learning about the properties of 3-D shapes, counting and identifying faces, edges and vertices.  We have also been finding out whether different 2-D shapes have vertical lines of symmetry, using mirrors to test our answers!

PE:  it is brilliant that we are having Stelissa again this term!  We love their high impact routines!

Music:  Mrs Ball started our new Charanga music lessons with a new song for us to learn.

Art:  We sketched and painted this term's self-portraits this week.  We try to improve our artwork each time, it will be great to see how we have changed as the terms and years go by!

Finally, Miss Bishop and Mrs Shaw would like to thank the Year 2 parents for the very generous gifts they received for Christmas.  It was such a lovely surprise and was very kind of you all.  Year 2 is a busy, happy class - we all really enjoy working together!
