Hanbury School’s Reception Teacher, Verity Mills is already looking forward to welcoming the next generation of little learners as the deadline for First and Primary places fast approaches.
Applications should be made via the Worcestershire County Council website before next Thursday, 15th January.
“We welcome visits from families looking for the right school for their child throughout the year and are very proud of our brand new learning environment which we feel provides a wonderful start to school life,” said Reception Teacher, Verity Mills.
Reception and Year 1 pupils are already making full use of two brand new classrooms that were completed as part of a major development project that also included the creation of 2 rooms for group lessons and a resurfaced, extended playground.
“We’re set in the heart of some beautiful countryside, close to Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Redditch, so we like to take full advantage of the great outdoors!”
Adventures to local farms, Hanbury Hall, Hanbury Church and beyond help strengthen connections with the local environment, but just over a year ago, another significant investment was made to create a large, on-site Forest School area.
Under the expert guidance of qualified Forest School leaders, the wooded area is where pupils can be curious, build resilience and develop an appreciation of nature as it changes throughout the year. However it can just as easily be the perfect setting for a really inspirational maths lesson or cosy story time around a fire.
“Our tours of the school can show a lot about what we can offer families as they begin their education journey, but it’s hard to explain just how fantastic Forest School lessons are if you haven’t been to one,” commented Mrs Mills. “That’s why we’ve made a video of one of our weekly sessions.”
“As you’ll see, there’s always lots of tree climbing, den building, woodworking and - a firm favourite - muddy puddle making!” she added.
“Outdoor learning like this has a huge impact on the way children relate to each other and the world around them. It helps in so many areas, including language development, confidence, teamwork and endurance, whilst boosting physical and mental wellbeing at the same time.”
“Our rural setting which provides these opportunities to help our pupils flourish is just one of the aspects that we feel makes our school so special.”
