Sharing Our Learning

It was lovely to welcome so many families to our regular Curriculum Sharing sessions this week.  The fun lessons strengthen home-school links and provide a great opportunity for parents and carers to find out more about what their children have been learning.  The children were very proud to share their work with all those who attended.

Reception:  Our curriculum-sharing afternoon was full of excitement and creativity. We made fantastic junk-model rockets, carefully crafted Christmas cards for our families, and designed our own colourful calendars. Everyone got involved, sharing ideas and enjoying the chance to be imaginative together. It was lots of fun and a really lovely celebration of creativity!
Year 2:  Year 2’s curriculum share gave parents an insight into their Design and Technology learning. The children proudly created their final Christmas decoration, using skills they have been developing this term — including drawing around templates, careful cutting and some impressive basic stitching.

Year 4:  The session was the final element of our design and technology sequence where the children had tested materials, gathered design ideas and decided on final designs to create a Viking Longboat during the afternoon.

The afternoon culminated in the children and adults sticking to a design brief which included the Viking Boats having recognisable features like sails, oars, prows (heads of animals at the fronts and backs of the boats), be able to float on water and be watertight. All groups made an excellent effort to make their ships look like a Viking ships but there were a few ships that did not quite manage to balance on the water!

Year 1:  Year 1 have been exploring sculptures this half term. The children designed their own alien sculpture, and the curriculum sharing afternoon offered the opportunity for parents to see their designs and support them as they used their sculpting, shaping and smoothing skills to make their alien using clay.

Year 3:  Year 3 put their tastebuds to the test by making Winter Vegetable Soup! They learned lots of new vocabulary to describe tastes and textures, then prepared six different vegetables to try.  Depending on their preference, they then created their own soup, combining the ingredients they had prepared earlier in the day.

Some recipes were more popular than others, but it was great to see everyone trying something new and coming up with a whole host of new varieties of soup!
