Mrs Ball shared details of a new and exciting initiative, aimed at strengthening community connections and supporting wellbeing across generations this week.

Our school will be launching an intergenerational partnership with elderly members of our local community who may be experiencing loneliness. Children in years 3 and 4 initially, will have the opportunity to take part in shared sessions with older adults, building meaningful relationships through conversation and activities.

Each session will include a range of gentle, enjoyable activities such as crafts, playing board games, and sharing light refreshments together. However, the most important aspect will be the chance to talk, listen, connect with one another and have fun:

"We believe this initiative offers many benefits for both the children and the elderly participants alike," said Mrs Ball.

Alongside local Reverends Rich and Paula, who will plan and supervise the programme, RE Co-ordinator, Mrs Ball is confident there will be lots of positive outcomes:
"It will help to develop empathy, kindness and respect for older generations, build oracy skills and confidence in communication and listening skills," she said.

"We also hope it will encourage social responsibility and community awareness, support emotional literacy through meaningful conversations and provide enriching real-life experiences beyond the classroom."

For elderly members of the community, the programme aims to reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation, offer regular opportunities for companionship and conversation, create a sense of purpose and connection with younger generations and promote wellbeing through shared activities and social interaction

"We are very proud to be taking part in an initiative that reflects our school values and supports the wider community," added Mrs Ball.

We will keep you posted on this exciting programme!
