World Book Day is always a firm favourite in the Hanbury calendar, and this year was no exception.
Animals, witches, princes and princesses were joined by farmers, unicorns and a sprinkling of Willie Wonkas whilst others came ready to snuggle up with a book in their comfy pyjamas.
There were plenty of opportunities to share stories and favourite characters as each teacher took it in turn to visit every classroom to read a story they had chosen.
The characters in Mr McDonagh’s “Choose your own adventure” story were brought to life by staff who acted out each part during this morning’s special Worship. As always there was lots of laughter, especially when the Evil Pea took to the dance floor!
Reading for fun is the biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful future. Young people are more likely to read if they see it as a fun, entertaining and social thing to do. If today is anything to go by, we know that at Hanbury, we love sharing stories, learning facts and escaping to far-flung places by picking up a book!
To maintain the enthusiasm, every child was given a voucher to exchange for a World Book Day book, or to get money off another book of their choice.
