During Reception's Curriculum Sharing session, the children shared the story of The Little Red Hen and enjoyed talking about the characters and events in the story with their families.

Afterwards, the children created their own split pin Little Red Hen characters, practising their fine motor skills by carefully cutting with scissors and attaching the pieces. They were very proud to show how their hens could move!

Finally, the children made their own life cycle crafts and confidently explained each stage of the lifecycle of a chicken to their families, showing just how much they have learned.

Year 1 have been exploring art in the style of Vincent Van Gogh this half term.

During their sharing session, they used his iconic Sunflowers artwork to sketch carefully, thinking about the shapes they could see, and used watercolours to bring their work to life. The children experimented with mixing colours to create different tints and shades, making thoughtful choices as they worked.

Year 2 started their DT topic this half term by comparing modern fire engines with those from the 1600’s - this linked to learning in History about the Great Fire of London.

They then explored different materials and how they might be suitable for the different parts of the fire engines and learned how to create wheels, axles and chassis.

Finally, in curriculum sharing, the children pulled all this learning together to create their own amazing fire engines which had wheels that would rotate. They used a variety of materials and tools to secure all the elements in place.

Earlier in the week, Year Three brought their DT ideas to life after researching and designing their own rainforest animal puppets. The children explored different materials, practised sewing skills and worked together with their families to produce some fantastic finished products!

For the Year 4 curriculum sharing morning, the class concluded their work on perspective in art with the focus on Lowry's artwork. Before the lesson, the children had built up an understanding of layers in pictures and thought about Lowry's colour palette along with the moods he creates in his images.

The children produced a final draft before the session began. There were some excellent examples of how detail could be added to the foreground of the image but also how Lowry used matchstick people in different positions to convey the mood.
