We've been marking this period of Remembrance in a variety of ways, reflecting on the sacrifice others have made and continue to make for us all.
The theme has been woven throughout our daily worship, which has included prayers, songs and on Tuesday, a very special visitor.
We were delighted to welcome John Garfield from the Royal British Legion who spoke to us all before sharing a Remembrance workshop with Year 4.
John shared the history of the poppy and explained how it became a symbol of remembrance. He also spoke about the important work the Royal British Legion continues to do today, supporting serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families. The children were particularly interested to learn about the purple poppy, which commemorates the many animals that lost their lives during wartime.
During his visit, John highlighted the impact of war on our local communities, explaining that around 10% of the villages' populations lost their lives during the war. He also shared memories of his own time at Hanbury School over 60 years ago and reflected on how much the school has changed since then.
We would like to thank John very much for giving up his time to visit us and for delivering such an informative and thought-provoking session.
Children in Year 4 have been visiting all our classes each day, inviting everyone to donate to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and to wear their poppy with pride.
